This primary source is a comic strip that would be found in a newspaper. The title of this newspaper is "New York Journal and Advertiser" It was published on December 18th, 1898. The comic strip is titled "A Comedy of Christmas Day". This comic strip is significant because it is a form of entertainment put in the newspaper to bring joy to people. During the most exciting time of the year there is still tragedy so with every bit of bad news, there are little funny comic strips to bring a little bit of happiness to people. This source teaches us that people back then enjoyed looking at comic strips just like we do now. So many people still look at the comic strips they put in the newspaper and we learn that it came from way back then. I learned that there are many different forms of entertainment. There isn't just entertainment that's performed in person or on the television, but just as simple as a small comic is entertaining to the people of this time period.
This primary source is a newspaper article. This newspaper article is the daily bulletin from June 16th, 1888. This article was produced in Honolulu, Hawaii. It is titled the "Hawaiian Opera House". This article shows an ad for a performance from the "Canaris Wizard" and a performance called "A Night with the Spirits". This newspaper article persuading the people of the town to go and check out. It only comes on for two nights. Saturday and Thursday on June 16th and June 21st. This newspaper article is significant because it shows a little bit of what entertainment the people liked to go and watch back then. These people performing are all about the impossible and inhuman. They want to wow the crowd and make them believe there is something unhuman about them. The source teaches us what people preferred to pay attention to in this period. Nowadays it's all about the music industry for entertainment but it wasn't necessarily like that back then. I learned that there were many different and unusual things that were being portrayed in the late 1800s. Compared to entertainment now, this is completely different.

The audience is mainly made up of men with a few women. The man and the woman on stage seem to be reading some sort of paper out loud. It seems to be some kind of a romantic scene between the two of them. The picture was taken at Wellclose Square in 1867. This picture teaches us that back then before they had electronics, this is how they entertained the people of the town. Mainly men with a few women would go up on stage and act out something that could or could not happen. The audience would come from all over town and pay little amounts of money to see them perform.

It is a huge building that looks to be in the center of town with many cars outside of it with people walking around. There are different characters in the window. What this place considers a "freak" to be is someone who is deformed. It is someone who doesn't look the average human. The people in the windows are examples of the "freaks". This picture was taken in the town of Olympia Circus in 1872. This picture teaches us about what the average person thought was entertaining back then. It was very common for people to go pay money to see a deformed human. In a way this is a very offensive activity to do because the "freaks" can feel made fun of but many people enjoy seeing something different than what an average human would look like.

They call themselves the "Tennessee Jamboree". This picture was taken in 1882. This picture teaches us that not only famous people can create entertainment for the people of the town. These six men look to be regular, ordinary men from the town just making some music for the people.

The woman has headphones on that are connected to about four different wires to a big box where the sound is coming from. She looks to be inside her own house. This picture was taken in Adamsville, Alabama in 1898. This picture teaches us that now people don't always have to go out to get the latest information about the town. They can stay right at their homes and learn everything they need to know about the upcoming events. It is very beneficial to the people who can't always go out.
This is a map of Rocky Point Park, an amusement park from the late 1800s. From this map we can figure out what each section of the park is called and where to find it. Everything is clearly labeled. We can also tell this was probably a very popular amusement park based on how big the park was. It probably had started out small but with the money it had gained, it grew and grew to what it is now. We can learn that this amusement park was very popular among the people. A lot of people were wanting to have some fun so they went to Rock Point Park.
